The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education (KuBi) is the largest faculty at the University of Klagenfurt. We see our heterogeneity as an opportunity and promote multilingualism and intercultural education. The faculty also relies on interdisciplinarity in teaching.

Bachelor Angewandte Kulturwissenschaft

Wir bieten für Fans des Englischen ein Bachelorstudium an, das zweierlei abdeckt: Einerseits erlernst du die englische Sprache, bis du sie annähernd muttersprachlich sprechen kannst. Wir bieten dir die ganze Bandbreite der Geschichte – von der Antike bis zur Jetztzeit. Als Alpen-Adria-Universität haben wir einen Fokus auf den Alpen-Adria-Raum im Schnittpunkt verschiedener Kulturen. Der Geschichte spüren wir übrigens nicht nur zwischen Buchdeckeln nach, sondern wir gehen mit dir hinaus, vorwiegend, aber nicht ausschließlich in der näheren Umgebung: zu ehemaligen Siedlungsräumen wie dem keltisch/römischen Magdalensberg, zu mittelalterlichen Burgen und Städten oder zeitgenössischen Gedenkstätten und Museen. Mach mit uns gemeinsam Vergangenheit lebendig, damit wir als Gesellschaft spürbar vorankommen.

Was kann ich wissen? Was soll ich tun? Was darf ich hoffen? Was ist der Mensch? Die Fragen nach Erkenntnis, Ethik, Existenz und dem Wesen des Menschen sind laut Immanuel Kant die vier Kardinalfragen der Philosophie. In bewegten Zeiten, in denen Autoritäten zunehmend an Stellung einbüßen und oft unklar bleibt, was fake und was wahr ist, braucht es Menschen, die Fragen aufwerfen und zum Hinterfragen anleiten. Philosoph*innen sind abstrakte und flexible Denker*innen und kreative Problemlöser*innen abseits des Mainstreams. Studiere Philosophie, stelle Gegebenes in Frage und schaffe Neues.

Master Diversitätspädagogik in Schule und Gesellschaft
Das Masterstudium vermittelt auf den Grundlagen der Erziehungs- und Bildungswissenschaft vertiefende Theorien, Handlungs- und Forschungsmethoden zu unterschiedlichen Aspekten von Diversität in einer pluralen und globalisierten Gesellschaft.
Master English and American Studies
The Master‘s programme in English and American Studies teaches theoretical and practical skills in the English language as well as in a range of specialist and general professionally relevant subjects. Depending on the selected specialisation, students deepen their knowledge in the spheres of Applied Linguistics or in Literary and Culture Studies.
Master Erwachsenenbildung und berufliche Bildung
Bildung spielt über die gesamte Lebensspanne eine wichtige Rolle. Sie findet professionell gestaltet in öffentlichen und privaten Einrichtungen statt, aber auch in informellen und selbstorganisierten Lernkontexten. Das Studium zielt darauf ab, die Reflexions- und Handlungsfähigkeit für erwachsenen- und berufspädagogische Tätigkeitsfelder zu fördern, zu erweitern und Fachwissen zu vertiefen.
Master Game Studies and Engineering
The English-language Master’s programme „Game Studies and Engineering“ is an interdisciplinary course that deals with the technical as well as the analytical and ethical aspects of video and other games. Dedicated teachers and bottom-up teaching methods motivate students to concentrate fully on the study of games, their development and their production.
Master Germanistik

Die Schwerpunkte an der Universität Klagenfurt liegen in der neueren deutschen und österreichischen Literatur, der Literaturkritik sowie der Angewandten Germanistik.

Master Sozialpädagogik und soziale Inklusion
Das Masterstudium Sozialpädagogik und soziale Inklusion basiert auf erziehungs- und bildungswissenschaftlichen Grundlagen und ermöglicht eine Vertiefung und Spezialisierung im Bereich von Sozialpädagogik und sozialer Inklusion.
Master Visuelle Kultur
Bilder sind heute mehr denn je Ausdruck und Agenten gesellschaftlicher Transformationen. Das Masterprogramm Visuelle Kultur fokussiert darauf, Wissen und Verständnis in Bezug auf die Wirkmächtigkeit von Bildern bzw. des Visuellen in der heutigen Gesellschaft zu stärken. Am Ende des Studiums bist du in der Lage, Artefakte visueller Kultur kritisch zu reflektieren und ihre Rezeption im Kontext sich schnell verändernder medialer und transkultureller Prozesse zu verorten.

Bachelor Teacher education
The teacher training program for secondary school general education offers a modern education that meets the requirements of today’s schools and prepares future teachers for the demands of everyday teaching. Since teacher training studies must be combined, students must either choose two subjects or they can choose one subject and one specialization.

Additional examinations for teaching profession studies:
If an additional examination in Latin has to be taken, it must be taken before the last assessment in the Bachelor’s program. The additional examination is not required if students have successfully completed at least 10 hours of Latin in a secondary school.
Master Teacher education

The teacher training programme is a degree programme with a special admission procedure. The two-stage admission procedure for the Bachelor’s degree programme takes place only once a year, in the run-up to the winter semester.
Teacher training studies feature a compulsory combination. Prospective students can choose from a total of 14 teaching subjects.

‘SchülerInnen an die Hochschulen’ school pupil university visiting programme
The programme „Schüler/innen an die Hochschulen“ enables young interested parties to attend courses and take exams at an early stage, to deepen their knowledge of their areas of talent, to get to know a course of study and to shorten their study time. In addition to participating in the programme, all students have the opportunity to be accompanied by a mentor from the ÖZBF mentoring project.
School visits
Our students and employees regularly visit schools throughout Austria. Scientists from the University of Klagenfurt also like to come to schools as Young Science Ambassadors.
It is also possible to come to the University of Klagenfurt with whole classes and attend specially organized lectures and workshops.
Studieren probieren
gives you the opportunity to participate in trial events and classes in your desired degree programmes. You will be accompanied by a student and you can ask questions afterwards.

Interdisciplinary teaching

The Adriatic Sea is only a two-hour drive from Klagenfurt. In summer as well as in winter, there are literally no limits to the recreational possibilities. At the same time, Klagenfurt is located in a diverse central European region: the cities of Ljubljana, Graz, Udine, Salzburg, Trieste, Venice, Vienna and Munich are within a radius of 130 to 350 kilometers by road.
Would you like to study abroad for one or two semesters during your studies? No problem! The KuBi faculty maintains contacts with about 120 universities in Europe and around the world. Depending on the mobility programme and the field of study, there are different partner universities that you can consider for a stay abroad.

Many university students work alongside their studies – on the one hand to finance their studies, on the other to gain additional qualifications and to gain initial experience in their future professional field.
The AAU’s Career Service helps students to find internships or part-time and holiday jobs and provides AAU graduates with a professional offer to prepare them for their career entry. As a first point of contact, the Career Service offers individual counselling, workshops and events on all aspects of career and work.
