Students have the opportunity to apply for a Student Internship within the European Erasmus+ programme. Either the student is responsible for organising the internship themselves or the departments assist in obtaining an internship. The student will receive funding from the Erasmus+ Programme.
There are three kinds of internships:
You can do your internship in all 28 EU member states as well as in Iceland, Norway, Turkey and Macedonia. You may apply for companies, NGOs, research facilities, (registered) associations and others. Erasmus+ Student Internships are full-time, and last from 2 to a maximum of 12 months. The funding for Erasmus+ Student Internship Programme is not a full scholarship but merely a financial aid to defray the potentially high costs of living abroad within the European Union. Students are eligible for funding for the Erasmus+ Student Internship Programme immediately after having completed an Erasmus+ study programme. However, the total number of months in the Erasmus+ and Erasmus+ Student Internship Programmes combined cannot exceed 12 months for each study cycle.
International Internship exchange:
Application requirements
Applicants must at least be in their third semester and prove that a company or some other institution has agreed to take them on as interns within one of the countries listed above.
If the country where the student intends to do an Erasmus+ internship is also the country of origin of the student, then they have to obtain a confirmation from an academic member of the respective department detailing the subject-related relevance and the suitable complementation for their course of study up to that point.
Application process
Please submit your application and all necessary documents online and at least 6 weeks prior to the start of your internship.
Extending your internship
Students may apply for extension of their stay once in any given academic year. The extension cannot be longer than the previously approved time period for funding. The application must be submitted to the International office and must be made at the latest 6 weeks prior to the end of the original stay.
Selection process and nominations
The International Office is responsible for nominating students. Applicants will be informed via email as to the status of their individual nomination. The emails also contain a code that allows the student to register for the Austrian online databank ‘Students Online’. After registration, all other information will be given out directly via email by the OeAD Regional Office/ Erasmus consultant.
After all the data regarding the nomination have been verified, the intern will receive a confirmation.
The student must visit the online databank ‘Students Online’ and download the appropriate agreement. This agreement must be printed and signed twice and submitted in the original to the regional office of the OeAD/ Erasmus office.
Exemption from tuition fees
Students, who receive funding for their Erasmus+ internship, are eligible to be exempted from tuition fees for the duration of their internship. However, the ÖH fee is mandatory for all students and must be paid in full.
After the internship abroad
Each student must submit a certificate of attendance to the OeAD regional office/ Erasmus consultant within four weeks after the internship has been completed.
