„Preparatory course program for supplementary examinations” (VAAU)
The preparatory course program has been designed to prepare international/foreign university applicants for the supplementary examination to demonstrate adequate knowledge of the German language and for supplementary examinations in other subjects. The course program concludes with the supplementary examinations.
Students, whose admission to a regular degree programme is contingent upon passing the supplementary examination in order to demonstrate their knowledge of German and/or who have been prescribed one or several supplementary examinations in other subjects, are entitled to be admitted to the preparatory course program.
At the beginning of the semester there is a placement test to determine the assignment of course participants to the most suitable module.
Examinations offered by the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF)
In order to provide official proof of language proficiency in German and to achieve compliance with the Integration Agreement, the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF) offers various examinations. Deutsch in Österreich, the language center at the University of Klagenfurt, is a licenced exam center for various levels of the Austrian Integration Fund, including the integration exams A1, A2, B1 and B2. The exams of the ÖIF (Austrian Integration Fund) represent for level A2 and above valid proof of language competence in the European higher education area (ERASMUS +).

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the world’s most popular English language proficiency test. In co-operation with the British Council Austria, IELTS examinations are now offered at the University of Klagenfurt.
Across the globe, over 2.5 million tests were taken in the past year. IELTS test results are recognised by more than 9,000 organisations in more than 140 countries. These include universities, schools, educational establishments and businesses.
IELTS verifies the full range of English language skills – reading, writing, listening comprehension and speaking. The test is geared to reflect the way the English language is used at universities, in the workplace and during leisure time.
Preparation courses
The Language Center German in Austria offers preparation courses for the “IELTS Academic Test”. The preparation courses for the “IELTS Academic Test” consist of four modules (listening, reading, writing, speaking), which are practiced individually. In addition, various strategies are taught to facilitate the handling of the four test modules and thus increase the chances of success. There are no formal requirements for participation in the preparatory course: However, it is important that language skills of at least B2/a level (“/a” = entry level) are required and that the lessons as well as the course materials used also geared to this level. The course lasts two weeks and includes 15 teaching units (TU) of 45 minutes each.
