Admission of applicants who have been admitted to the University of Klagenfurt in the past or are currently enrolled
Are you interested in applying for and enrolling in a Bachelor’s degree programme at the University of Klagenfurt, and have you already been, or are you currently, enrolled at the university? Then the following information will help you plan your next steps:
Admission periods
Winter semester 2025/26
General admission period for Bachelor’s degree programmes:
7 July 2025 – 5 September 2025
Summer semester 2026
General admission period for Bachelor’s degree programmes:
8 January 2026 – 5 February 2026
Admission to a Bachelor’s degree programme must occur within the general admission period. This rule also applies if you
- are currently studying at the University of Klagenfurt and starting an additional Bachelor’s degree programme or
- wish to change your degree programme or
- have studied at the University of Klagenfurt in the past and wish to resume your studies.
In exceptional cases, admission to a Bachelor’s degree programme may be permitted during the general admission period for other programmes. Should one of the following exceptions be applicable in your case, please contact the Admissions and Examinations Office.
Exceptions to the general admission period for Bachelor’s degree programmes
- Failure to complete a special admission procedure, a general admission procedure or the introductory orientation phase (StEOP)
Failure to complete a special admission procedure, a general admission procedure or the introductory orientation phase (StEOP) in another degree programme programme, provided that the result for the winter semester is not available until after 31 August, or the result for the summer semester is not available until after 31 January. - Students who have just completed their school leaving examination
Cases in which the general university entrance qualification is attained after 31 August (winter semester) or after 31 January (summer semester). - Residence permit issued at a later date
Cases where the residence permit for the student is not issued in due time pursuant to section 64 of the Settlement and Residence Act (NAG), Federal Law Gazette I No. 100/2005, provided that the student is not at fault. - Unforeseen or unavoidable event
The occurrence of an unforeseen or unavoidable event, provided that the prospective students can plausibly demonstrate that this event prevented them from meeting the deadline and this was not, or only to a minor degree, the fault of the applicants. - Temporary admission pursuant to section 63 (5) of the Universities Act
- 1. Persons for the duration of the approved participation in university mobility programmes including joint study programmes;
- 2. Persons who solely wish to take advantage of distance learning programmes on the basis of co-operation agreements, for a maximum of two semesters;
- 3. Foreign nationals and stateless persons pursuant to para. 3 subpara. 3 who, after completing studies abroad to an extent corresponding to the first diploma examination of the chosen diploma degree programme or a Bachelor’s degree programme, seek admission to a degree programme in Austria, for a maximum of two semesters.
- Supplementary examinations taken at a later date
Supplementary examinations taken after the general admission period, provided that they are supplementary examinations taken in the course of the pre-study programme at the University of Klagenfurt in order to achieve equivalence with a domestic secondary school leaving examination and/or to acquire the German language skills required for admission to the chosen degree programme,
and provided that the examinations have been taken in the period between the end of the general admission period and 31 October for the winter semester and 31 March for the summer semester. - Change of the programme of study
Change of study programme by students who are already enrolled at the University of Klagenfurt as regular or non-degree students in the semester in question.
General admission procedure
If you have been admitted to the University of Klagenfurt in the past or are currently enrolled at the university, fill in the student data sheet and sign it. Send the completed student data sheet to studienabteilung [at] aau [dot] at. Heed the information on online registration.
If you do not have Austrian citizenship, please send the completed and signed application for admission to a Bachelor’s degree programme together with the student data sheet to studienabteilung [at] aau [dot] at.
If necessary, additional documents will be requested.
If you wish to enrol for a Bachelor’s degree programme with a special admission procedure, the successful completion of the special admission procedure is an additional prerequisite for admission.
Degree programmes with special admission procedures
Some Bachelor’s degree programmes are subject to a special admission procedure. These Bachelor’s degree programmes are:
In addition to the respective special admission procedure, the general admission procedure must be completed.
Language proficiency
Required language proficiency
- German at least A2 → at the time of application
- German B2 → at the time of admission to a degree programme (except German Studies / teacher education programmes)
- German C1 → at the time of admission to the Bachelor’s degree programme in German Studies / teacher education programmes
- English B2 → at the time of application
Proof of language proficiency
Proof of proficiency in German at the B2 level (CEFR) at the time of admission to a degree programme that is conducted in German (with the exception of German Studies / teacher education programmes). For admission to the Bachelor’s degree programme in German Studies and teacher education programmes, proficiency in German at the C1 level (CEFR) must be evidenced.
Individuals who apply for a degree programme taught in German and whose first language is not German must provide proof of proficiency in German no lower than level A2 (CEFR) at the time of application.
Proof of proficiency in English at the B2 level (CEFR) at the time of application to a degree programme that is conducted in English.

A list of the accepted language qualifications is available in the Regulation issued by the Rectorate concerning proof of required language proficiency for admission to study programmes.
Important instructions
Official documents
Only documents which are equipped with a wet ink signature and a wet stamp/embossing seal (i.e. manually signed and stamped) or with the Austrian ‘official signature’ (“Amtssignatur”) are considered official documents. Digitally generated documents without a wet ink signature and wet stamp/embossing seal or, respectively, without the Austrian official signature will not be considered.
Disclosure of data
In the event of doubt, the university reserves the right to verify the authenticity of any documents submitted.
Additional examination for Latin
The potentially required additional examination for Latin must be taken before passing the last examination in the Bachelor’s degree programme. Students who have successfully completed at least 10 hours per week of Latin at secondary level are not required to take the additional examination.
