UNIVERSITY
Rankings
Numerous different university rankings exist around the globe. They serve students as an aid to decision-making when choosing a university, and good rankings are also often regarded as a “hallmark of quality” for university degrees and the research efforts of universities.
The THE World University Rankings, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking) and the QS World University Rankings are the “big three” among the global university rankings and enjoy most attention worldwide. The University of Klagenfurt is represented in all three rankings.
Some rankings compare the universities as a whole and form a ranking list or ranking groups, while other rankings rank individual subjects (e.g. social sciences, computer sciences) or publish partial rankings (e.g. THE Young University Rankings). The rankings differ according to the methodology on which they are based, especially the selection and weighting of the evaluation criteria, the national and international orientation, but also the underlying data quality. The University of Klagenfurt monitors the development of rankings very carefully and maintains the necessary critical distance.
