Thanks to an agreement between the European Commission and the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt dating from 1992, the university can claim the status of specialised European Documentation Centre, serving to promote and consolidate study and research in the European Union. As part of this agreement, the European Commission undertakes to provide the EDC with all EU documentation produced by the European Parliament, the European Commission and other EU institutions free of charge. For its part, the university must house these publications in specially designated, publicly accessible library areas and keep indexes.

Opening hours
The EDC has the same opening hours as the library.
The EDC is located in the great reading room on level 2 of the university library, and is open to the public. Publications not classed as periodicals are organised in line with the system of the Office for Official Publications, and periodicals are listed alphabetically. All documents available in the Klagenfurt University Library are formally registered and indexed (system of the Office for Official Publications, system of the Klagenfurt University Library, verbal subject indexing according to the RSWK rules), and can be located in this way via the local Search engine.
