In the project, we test three types of images for their potential facilitating effect on the uptake of English idioms.
Type A): Literal
The image visualizes the literal meanings of the content words making up the idiomatic expressions
Type B): Meaning
The image captures the overall meaning of the idiomatic expression
Type C): Combination
The image combines visual elements relating to the literal meanings of the content words making up the idiom with the depiction of the overall meaning of the idiom
Example:
To sit on the fence (meaning: to be undecided about something and avoid taking a decision)
