Media Club

Welcome to the Department of English’s Media Club at the University of Klagenfurt!

Our club is an open, inclusive space for everyone who loves stories and meaningful content. Every single semester, we dive into a new theme and explore it through a wide mix of different media: films and TV shows, anime and manga, video games, graphic novels, novels, short stories, and many more.

The purpose of our media club is rather simple: connect people with thoughtful storytelling and spark conversations about the cultural, political, and social issues reflected in the works we consume. Think of it as a book club, but with an expanded selection of media.

Our media club meets every other week in usually seven sessions per semester. For more details, please have a look at our current programme. Each session highlights different perspectives on the semester’s theme, supported by short clips and excerpts, key scenes, or brief examples while focussing mainly on conversation and shared individual reflection.

The Media Club was founded by René Schallegger, Vanessa Walzl, and Tamara Urach in 2025 and is supported by the Department of English, but we like to see it as something that belongs to everyone. Students, staff members, alumni, and everyone else interested in storytelling and culture are very much welcome to join, contribute, or even host a session themselves (find out more here). Whether you are a dedicated reader, gamer, film enthusiast, or simply curious to participate, you are invited to be part of a community that celebrates media in all its forms.
