HOW TO QUICKLY MAKE A COMPUTER GAME

A computer game can be a large software project done by a team of 100 people working on it for many months. But there is also the possibility to make a small and nice prototype in minimum time. Such games are typically made at game jams. A game jam is an event where video games are made for a certain theme in a short time span, usually between 24 and 72 hours. This is challenging for you software engineering abilities as well as for your creativity and design skills. Game Jams can be a physical gathering or being done online.

In this talk on December 5th, which takes place a week before the Winter Game Jam at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, professor Wilfried Elmenreich will introduce some game jams and explain the challenges and benefits from such events. He will also show how particular game jams like Ludum Dare or the OneHour Game Jam work and he will introduce to some tools, sources and methods that can help to „survive“ a game jam.
