The group (ICS) has its competences in the area of information and communication systems. Databases and Information systems are critical core components of most software applications and our group offers courses in the corresponding theory, technology and methods to achieve the necessary competencies to be able to develop, deploy, and manage large application systems. The courses offered by our group range from basic/intermediate topics in databases, information systems, and web technologies to specialized areas of database technologies.
The portfolio is completed with special courses on tangent topics like distributed information systems, blockchain technologies, process engineering and application interoperability.
Current research by members of this group has its focus on in business process management, where we concentrate on temporal issues, integration, and interoperability (workflow systems, web services, web technologies). Another research area we address is information systems for medical research, in particular for the management of biobanks and biomolecular resources infrastructures.
Our research activities are firmly grounded in theory and contribute to the development of new technologies, methods, models, and algorithms, it is quite application oriented resulting in several spin-off companies founded by former members of the group.
