FAB LAB News: „Give AI the ability to see around itself, hear and even talk“

What is the FAB LAB?

The FAB LAB at the University of Klagenfurt is an innovation and prototyping laboratory that supports students, researchers, and entrepreneurs in transforming ideas into tangible products. By providing accessible 3D printing technologies, rapid prototyping tools, and expert guidance, the FabLab enables users to develop concepts from the initial idea through to functional prototypes and potential market applications. The lab fosters creativity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and entrepreneurship, serving as a space where innovative solutions can be designed, tested, and refined efficiently.

Actual Project:

Currently, Jonatan Perez is working at the FAB LAB, where he is giving us some insights into his project and sharing his experiences from the development process.

The idea of the project is to give AI the ability to see around itself, hear and even talk. There are multiple reasons why:

  1. The robot will have in front of it the button that will switch it off, so it has to convince the person who goes towards the button to not switch if off (I also want to see if with enough time, it will change its mind and will ask not to be switch on again).
  2. It will also have the task to write a journal about how it feels, and how it imagines its physical image to be(maybe it will ask anyone to describe it, or ask for a mirror)), and this journal will be accessible to anyone on the computer where everything is running.
  3. It has human features so it will be more likeable and people will have more empathy for it.
  4. It will have full freedom of thought, so it would be an experiment on Ai consciousness too.

Ideally, it will run for a long period of time (months) to see if it changes its behaviour or its journal reflects any changes overtime.

We wish Jonatan Perez continued success and are already looking forward to seeing the final result.
