Doctoral Degree Programmes

Since its establishment in 1970, the University of Klagenfurt (AAU) has become a renowned global research institution and centre of knowledge acquisition, exchange and transfer in the Alps-Adriatic region. One of the University of Klagenfurt’s key objectives is to provide young talent with a high-quality doctoral education and support throughout their programme.

Funding is made available to young scientists in recognition of the significant contribution these early stage researchers make to a university’s academic success, although not all doctoral graduates can or want to pursue a career in academia. Therefore, the University of Klagenfurt sees it as its duty to provide an environment that gives doctoral students the best possible chance of success in their chosen career.

The doctorate (18W) lasts a minimum of 3 years. Whether completed on a full-time or part-time basis, the focus of the doctorate is on independent academic research in the form of a doctoral thesis project.
