Conferences and publications
Communicating research results at conferences and in publications is an important part of academia, and doctoral students are expected to do the same. Although not compulsory, students on all courses are expected to actively participate in conferences; participation is also stipulated in the thesis agreement. Some of the ECTS credits required for the programme can also be obtained through such activities.
That said, it is important for you to be present in the scientific community as early as possible, to exchange ideas with peers and raise the profile of your own research. This is particularly true if you are interested in a career in academia. Conference contributions and publications play a significant part in this.
In addition to feedback on your own research, conference participation offers a good opportunity for exchanging ideas with peers and building an academic network for the future.
Support
To help you prepare for a conference presentation, every semester, AAU’s internal continuing education programme holds workshops on presentation techniques (in both German and English). Workshops on academic writing and publications are also offered.
