Mobility Grants Type A & B
- TYPE A: Periods abroad of approx. 1 month: For the purpose of networking or initiating a research project – funding up to a max. € 2.500,-
- TYPE B: Periods abroad of approx. 3 months up to 1 semester: For the purpose of conducting a joint research project at a foreign research institution – funding up to max. € 8.000,-
Grants for AAU doctoral students in support of short-term foreign visits
Guideline for funding of short-term foreign visits
If a short research period abroad is imperative to the progress of your dissertation project, you can apply for a KWA-grant. Consideration is given to:
- research inquiries
- laboratory work
- field studies
- work in archives and libraries
- scientific collections
Travel and accomodation expenses are funded up to a max. of € 500,-.
Funding for promoting active conference participation by doctoral students who are not employed by the University of Klagenfurt
Guideline for funding of active conference participation
In order to promote international research activities of Early Career Researchers, active conference participation of doctoral candidates can be funded. “Active participation” refers to the presentation of a paper or a poster, the moderation or chairing of a workshop, a session, or similar.
Travel and accomodation expenses as well as participation fees are funded up to a max. of € 350,-.

Together with the Vice-Rectorate for Research of the University of Klagenfurt, the doctoral students’ represetation of the ÖH Klagenfurt offers funding for doctoral candidates who want to take part in other universities’ events.
Funding up to a max. of € 100,- can be assigned for the following events inside or outside of Austria:
- Courses
- Seminars
- Conferences
Young Scientists Mentoring Programme
YSMP Call 2024/2025 (application deadline: May 13 2024)
The Young Scientists Mentoring Programme (YSMP) financially supports one-year mentoring partnerships between early career researchers of the University of Klagenfurt and internationally recognised scholars from foreign universities (or research institutions) as well as any associated research stays.
Reimbursement of accommodation and travel expenses for external reviewers and examiners in the context of defensiones
The reimbursement of accommodation and travel expenses for external reviewers and examiners who come to the University of Klagenfurt in the context of defensiones of doctoral candidates is possible upon request.

Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften
Die Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften (ÖAW) ist Österreichs zentrale außeruniversitäre Einrichtung für Wissenschaft und Forschung. Die nachhaltige Förderung vielversprechender junger Talente ist der ÖAW ein besonderes Anliegen. In ihren Forschungsinstituten bietet die Akademie vielfältige Chancen für junge Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler.
