Big data in conjunction with artificial intelligence and machine learning are revolutionizing the potential and risk of predictive business analytics. Firms have extensive records on customer and employee behavior. While on the one hand this allows firms to deliver an increasingly sophisticated product offering that is customized to individual needs and preferences, it also has the potential to extract private information that a customer may prefer not to share. Similarly, firms now have the potential to use algorithms to replace workers in certain domains. It is thus more important than ever to engage with the opportunities presented by these new technologies while also managing and regulating the risks associated with them. We will explore three examples. First, we will see how fine grained data on household energy consumption can help us design more successful energy efficiency programs. Then, we will investigate whether algorithms can replace bank managers. And, lastly, we will see how consumer credit data can predict mortality.The presentation will be followed by a discussion moderated by Martin Wagner who will share some of his experiences with big data in a central bank context. We want to discuss the implications of big data and business analytics for education, research, firms and organizations.

Denn Gesundheit entsteht immer im Wechselspiel zwischen Individuum und Umwelt.Information zur Präsentation Gemeinsam werfen wir ein Blick auf die ersten 10 Jahre von Mental Health Solutions und die Learnings daraus. Erfolg bedeutet für mich nicht unbedingt Wachstum oder Gewinnoptimierung. Ich habe das große Glück, (fast) jeden Tag etwas tun zu können, mit dem ich anderen Menschen Perspektiven eröffnen kann und Krankheiten verhindere und dabei empfinde ich große Freude am Tun. Wer an Gesundheit denkt, denkt oft erst mal an Bewegung und gesunde Ernährung. Psychische und soziale Gesundheit rücken oft erst in den Blick, wenn es Schwierigkeiten gibt.Daher wundert es kaum, dass die meisten Menschen denken, Mental Health Solutions würde Behandlung anbieten. Klassische Akquise und Werbung war für uns schwer vorstellbar. Wie wir unsere Themen platzieren konnten und es noch immer tun, wieso wir langsam wachsen wollen und welche Vorteile das hat und welche Bedeutung Wohlbefinden und Gesundheit auch für Unternehmen und vor allem EPUs bedeuten, erzähle und diskutiere ich gerne mit den Teilnehmer:innen.Der Vortrag wird auch online Übertragen. Entrepreneurship has been claimed to matter and deserve priority because it has been linked to some of the most compelling economic and social issues of ourtime. Three distinct contexts will be discussed to link democracy to entrepreneurship, two historical and one contemporary.David Audretsch is part-time professor of entrepreneurship at the University of Klagenfurt since 2020 and a Distinguished Professor at Indiana University, where he also serves as director of the Institute for Development Strategies.
