DEPARTMENT OF MARKETING AND INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT

AAU1/...Department of Business Management2/Department of Marketing and International Management3/Study4/Internship

Internship

As part of our Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses in business administration, we attach great importance to application orientation. Our students gain their first insights into practice during their courses. In addition, it is also very important to us to offer students the opportunity to apply their knowledge directly in companies/institutions.

You can find all information about the practical experience of our degree programs on this page.

Bachelor´s Degree Programme (International) Business Administration (18W, L 033 518) Bachelor´s Degree Programme International Business And Economics (19W, L 033 516) Master´s Programme Business Administration (22W, L 066 918) and Applied Business Administration (12W, L 066 918)

Relevant Practical Work (free electives)

Bachelor´s Degree Programme (International) Business Administration (18W, L 033 518)

Students in the Bachelor of Business Administration (18W) have the option (but not the obligation) to substitute a total of 6 ECTS credits from the free electives by completing a relevant practical work. This must correspond to a subject from the compulsory elective subject I (see §10 in the curriculum) of your chosen subject combination. Insofar as the relevant activity is related to the field of marketing, it will be supervised by the MIM team.

In the Bachelor’s degree programme Business Administration (version 2018, see §15 in the curriculum), the internship should last at least eight weeks and comprise at least 20 hours of work per week. A corresponding workplace report must then be written.

Requirements

  • Completion of the courses SBWL Marketing I, SBWL Marketing II and SBWL Marketing III
  • Relevant employment (assignment to the subject Marketing is possible)
  • Approval of relevant work in practice at the MIM department

To register, please complete the form “Relevant Practical Work in the area of Marketing – Registration” (see downloads) and send it by email to sonja [dot] grabner [at] aau [dot] at with a description of your intended practice, including proof of successful completion of the required marketing courses.

For details on the specific procedure and the structure of the workplace report, please refer to the guidelines – relevant practical work.

Relevant Work Experience

Bachelor’s Degree Programme International Business and Economics (19W, L 033 516)

In the course of the elective subject bundle II (§10 (2) in the curriculum), students can complete a subject-related relevant work experience totalling 16 ECTS during the Bachelor’s degree programme IBEc (19W). The relevant internship in the field of Marketing and International Management requires the completion of the course “BUS 6: Marketing”. After approval, further supervision is provided by the MIM team.

The Bachelor’s degree programme IBEc (version 2019, see §15 in the curriculum) requires a work placement of either at least three months (at least 30 hours/week) or four months (at least 20 hours/week). It is recommended that this is done with an internationally operating practice provider. After completing the relevant work experience, an workplace report must be written and presented in the course “Reviews of Internship Marketing & International Management“.

Requirements

  • Completion of the course BUS 6: Marketing
  • Relevant activity (assignment to the subject Marketing is possible)
  • Approval of relevant work in practice at the MIM department

To complete the relevant work experience, please send the completed registration form “Relevant Work Experience – Registration” with a description of your planned relevant work and proof of successful completion of the course (BUS 6: Marketing) by email to sonja [dot] grabner [at] aau [dot] at. Please also register for the course “603.104 Internship in Marketing & International Management”.

Further information on the exact procedure and the structure of the workplace report can be found in the Guidelines – Relevant Work Experience.

Compulsory Internship

Master´s Programme Business Administration (22W, L 066 918) and Applied Business Administration (12W, L 066 918)

As part of the Masters programme, all students are required to complete a relevant work placement in a local or international company. Marketing internships are supervised by the MIM team and are designed to give students the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge they have acquired in their courses.

In the Master of Business Administration (version 2022, see §14 in the curriculum), the internship should be completed in two consecutive months (at least 30 hours/week or at least 275 total working hours) within one semester. For the Master’s Degree in Applied Business Administration (version 2012, see §13 in the curriculum), the internship must last four months (at least 30 hours/week).

The internship must be followed by the “ Review of Internships in Marketing” course. The activities and experiences gained must be recorded in a practical report and presented in class.

Specific details regarding the procedure and the structure of the workplace report can be found in the relevant guidelines (Guidelines – Compulsory Internship MIM 22W or Guidelines – Compulsory Internship 12W, see downloads).

As an alternative to the internship, students can study abroad for one semester. In this case, 12 ECTS credits must be earned, which cannot be transferred to other subjects in the Master’s programme. An application must be made to take advantage of this alternative.

Requirements for compulsory work experience in Marketing & International Management

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree
  • Marketing courses of at least 12 ECTS (completed in the Master’s and/or Bachelor’s programme)
  • Approval of the compulsory internship by the MIM Department

Please fill in the form „Application for an internship at the MIM” (see Downloads) and send it together with the description of your planned internship and the proof of success (bachelor degree and marketing courses) via email to sonja [dot] grabner [at] aau [dot] at.
