Video game pioneers introduce themselves to students in Klagenfurt

Headlined “Press Start: Your Journey into Game Development”, seven representatives of the games industry will meet students on Friday, 12 April 2024 in the Omansaal located in the foyer of the University of Klagenfurt. This career event is geared primarily towards students enrolled in the Master’s degree programme in Game Studies and Engineering, but is also open to anyone else who is interested.

The event has been initiated by the pioneers of game development austria, an association of game developers from Austria aiming to advance the industry in this country. “As PGDA, we can offer students insights into the industry and, thanks to our experienced members, provide mentoring for those just starting out in the field,” the PGDA representatives stated. They have found fertile ground at the University of Klagenfurt, which introduced a unique Master’s programme in Game Studies and Engineering in 2017, offering students the opportunity not only to programme games, but also to engage in creative and analytical work on stories in video games and their cultural significance. “We have already built an extensive and diverse community of experts in game studies here. For those who would like to join us: the application period for the Master’s programme ends on 30 April,” notes Felix Schniz, the Programme Director responsible for the Master’s programme.

The event starts on Friday, 12 April 2024 at 1 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. Keynote speeches will be delivered by:

  • Stefan Srb – Creative Director Mipumi Games
  • Martin Filipp – COO & Managing Director Mipumi Games
  • Mateusz Gorecki – Game Director Rarebyte
  • Rainer Angermann – CEO Rarebyte
  • Michael Benda – CEO Zeppelin Studio
  • Raffael Moser – Founder reignite games
  • Sebastian Uitz – Founder Fire Totem Games

The panel discussion starting at 6 p.m. will focus on the industry and the challenges it faces, including those relating to the labour market. The development of Artificial Intelligence within the games industry will also feature prominently.
