The Production Systems (PROSYS) research group focuses on innovative methods and applications of Artificial Intelligence in industrial and social contexts, for instance addressing production planning, logistics systems, personnel scheduling, hardware design, software configuration and data mining. Artificial Intelligence technologies are especially a central driving force in the current transformation to Industry 4.0, aiming at highly automated, adaptive and networked manufacturing systems that are expected to boost agility, productivity as well as sustainability of the smart factories of tomorrow.
Our research is specifically concerned with the development and advancement of declarative problem solving methods enabling highly flexible planning and control of complex operational tasks in dynamic, interactive and real-time environments. For instance, this includes the conception and implementation of combinatorial
optimization techniques to improve the automation and efficiency of production processes, supply chains and personnel management.
