Bildungsstandards Deutsch (D4)

In the course of a 1-year project, LTC developed, in cooperation with Dr. Manuela Glaboniat (German Department at the University of Klagenfurt) and a group of practising elementary teachers, German standards tests for grade 4. The D4 Standards Tests included Reading, Writing and Language Awareness items. While Manuela Glaboniat has taken on the responsibility of supervising and assisting the item writing process, LTC was in charge of item banking and analysis.

Item development and analysis was finished by the end of 2009. At the beginning of 2010, writing raters were trained. The training consisted of face-to-face sessions as well as online rating phases during which the raters had to become familiar with the D4 rating scales, analyzed benchmarked writing performances and practised the rating of performances on their own.

The D4 baseline study was conducted in spring 2010 and involved a sample of approximately 8000 pupils.
