The endowed professorship for “Industry 4.0: Adaptive and Networked Production Systems” establishes the future topic of Industry 4.0 as a professorial chair, situated at the intersection of artificial intelligence, operations research and production management. The University of Klagenfurt and the University of Technology in Graz are the first two Austrian universities to address the pioneering topic of “Industry 4.0” in this form.
The endowed professorship
The professorial chair for “Industry 4.0: adaptive and networked production systems” represents an essential building block for the establishment of a research and teaching centre on the topic of Industry 4.0 in southern Austria. Prominent research groups are already working in the area of “New Technologies in Production” in Carinthia, in the vicinity of the University of Klagenfurt, as well as in Styria, near the University of Technology in Graz. The endowed chair will develop the strengths of both universities in the field of autonomous, adaptive and networked production systems and will work closely with the relevant research groups in Klagenfurt and Graz. To this end, the infrastructure of both locations will be utilised; four additional PhD/doctoral students will be employed in Klagenfurt and two in Graz. In addition to promoting research projects in the field of Industry 4.0, the purpose of the joint endowed professorship is to help shape university education in the fields of production, logistics, robotics, planning, configuration, diagnostics, analytics and optimisation.
