The MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity provides students with a sound understanding of both disciplines. It puts considerable emphasis on their intersection, and on the social, ethical and legal aspects that arise in their practical use.

The MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity is a two-year taught programme. It consists of three semesters of taught courses followed by a research project leading to the submission of a thesis and its defence at the end of the fourth term.

  • The MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity is a highly focused programme that enables students to concentrate on the core subjects Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity (and their intersection) with an additional emphasis on the social, ethical and legal aspects that arise in practice.
  • The programme is run jointly (as a “double degree programme”) with the University of Udine. Students from the Universities of Klagenfurt and Udine will be able to collaborate in lectures (delivered online) and projects.
  • Students may branch out and study courses that are related to and relevant for the application areas of both Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, taking full advantage of the offerings of both universities.

Considerable emphasis is placed on their intersection (i.e. Artificial Intelligence techniques to support Cybersecurity, and Cybersecurity techniques that enable secure Artificial Intelligence) and on the social, ethical and legal aspects that arise in their practical use.

Special admission procedure

To apply for the Master’s programme, applicants have to register online first. After they have created their personal account for registration, applicants have to upload a letter of motivation in English as well as further documents needed for the administrative procedure, such as a CV, a transcript of records, a Bachelor’s certificate as well as a copy of their passport. Incomplete applications cannot be considered.

A € 50 application fee must be paid by all applicants for the Master’s degree.

Prerequisites

Applicants have to go through a special admission procedure to start the Master‘s degree in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity in Klagenfurt.

Applicants must also meet the following conditions:

  • Bachelor's degree programme in either computer science, mathematics, statistics, or any related field within the wider range of science or technology degree programmes; in particular applicants need to demonstrate some knowledge of basic computer science concepts (either via courses/modules during your BSc or any kind of projects). Applicants also need to demonstrate personal and professional qualities that make them suitable for this MSc degree programme.

Prospective students who apply for admission to a Master’s degree programme taught in English must provide evidence of English language proficiency at the required level at the time of application.

 

Deadlines for Enrolment

All applicants who have successfully concluded the special admission procedure can enrol up to the 31 October. Enrolment (admission) takes place in person at the Admissions and Examinations Office.

The English language skills at level B2 (CEFR) must be supported by one of the items of proof listed below. The certificates mentioned under Item 2 must not be older than two years at the time of the application for admission.

  1. Qualifications:
    1. Successful completion of the subject English as part of the Austrian school leaving examination (provided in the form of an Austrian certificate of the final school year)
    2. School leaving certificate from a school at which English is the language of instruction and examination
    3. Successful completion of the subject English as part of a school leaving examination (to be evidenced by providing an Austrian school leaving certificate or a school leaving certificate issued in an EU member state demonstrating level B2 (CEFR))
    4. Austrian certificate testifying the right to study, including a pass in English at level B2
    5. Completion of a study programme conducted in English and lasting at least two years at a recognised post-secondary educational institution
  2. Certificates:
    1. TOEFL iBT (minimum score: 85)
    2. IELTS (minimum overall band score: 6)
    3. Cambridge English: First Certificate in English (FCE) or B2 First (minimum scale score: 160) or higher

Research laboratory for video streaming
