RESEARCH

Internal funding
Most internal funding is handled by the Universität Klagenfurt Research Council. It advises the Vice-Rector for Research and supports AAU’s research activities using available resources. The council issues impartial recommendations regarding the approval of the applications received. The following funding is awarded by the Research Council:
- University funding
- Funding offered by the State of Carinthia
- Funding offered by the City of Klagenfurt
- Funding offered by the Kärntner Sparkasse private foundation and other potential funding bodies
Funding is available for publications, projects and research events. A mobility grant for young researchers, grants specifically for AAU doctoral students and grants for courses on new doctoral programmes are also available.
The Research Council consists of the Vice-Rector for Research, who acts as the Chair for the council, and four professorial staff nominated by Faculty deans and may also include a representative from the relevant funding body:
The Kärntner Sparkasse private foundation is an important funding body. Their funding is aimed at transformational innovations that will facilitate the regional and economic development of the State of Carinthia, with a particular focus on MINT subjects (mathematics, information technology, science and technology).
All administration relating to internal funding is handled by the Research Support Service.
Staff can access more detailed information on the staff portal.
External funding
The Universität Klagenfurt Research Support Service provides researchers with regular updates on external funding programmes and how they are organized. Staff from the office also offer support on organizational and legal issues relating to funding applications and conducting research projects.
Advice is available for highly competitive third-party funding programmes such as HORIZON EUROPE (an EU research and innovation programme), the FWF (the Austrian Science Fund for the Promotion of Basic Research) and other established research funding organizations.
Staff can access further information on the staff portal.
