Why job shadowing is your key to getting your career off to a successful start

Embarking on a professional career can sometimes feel like jumping in at the deep end. Many students have questions, but haven’t yet found the answers. What will everyday life be like in your future career? What skills are really essential to be successful? How can you forge valuable contacts that will be useful later on in your career?

If you are currently at this stage, our Job Shadowing project will provide answers to your questions. And the first step in this exciting experience is the kick-off event on 12 March.

What is Job Shadowing?
Our mentors offer practical insights into everyday working life. You will gain first-hand experience of what it is like to work in your chosen career field. You will find out more about the skills and qualifications required and learn how you can develop them. Participation expands your wealth of experience as well as your professional network.

The kick-off event: Your gateway to Job Shadowing
The kick-off event will take place on 12 March at 3 pm in room Z.1.08. What happens at this event?

• Mentors introduce themselves with a one-minute pitch. You find out who they are, what they do and what they can offer as mentors in the Job Shadowing project.
• NAfter the introductions, you have the opportunity to talk to the mentors in person. You can ask questions, talk about your interests and find out whether they match your career goals.
• Add yourself to the contact lists of your preferred mentors.
• The mentors have until 31 March to select their mentees. If you are selected, you will be informed.
