Information for first-year students: How to get to the University of Klagenfurt and how to find your way around campus

Is your first day at the University of Klagenfurt just around the corner? Are you wondering where you can park, whether there are alternatives to travelling by car and how to find your way around campus? Here you will find information on parking fees, public transportation and the campus map, which will help you to master your start at the university!

Driving in my car – parking at the university

Parking at the University of Klagenfurt is subject to a fee 24/7 – but there is also good news: As a student you can buy a cheap long-term parking permit, so you don’t have to buy a new ticket every day. In addition to saving time, this also pays off financially very quickly, because a one-day ticket costs 7 euros.

The parking permit for four months costs 40 euros, for half a year you pay 60 euros; you can get the monthly permit for 13 euros. Where can you buy the permits? 4-month, half-year and monthly permits can be purchased at the cash desk (Bursar’s Office, room S.0.39) upon presentation of your student ID.

Tip: The parking permit is valid from the date of issue, so you can decide for yourself in which period you want to use it.

Climate-conscious by bus? That’s great!

Ideally, of course, you should travel by bus, train or bike! The new bus line frequency of KMG (Klagenfurt Mobil GmbH) supports you in this since 3 September 2023:

Three main lines run at 10-minute intervals: Line A (Annabichl – Heiligengeistplatz – Hauptbahnhof – Liberogasse) were added to the existing lines B and C. Nine secondary lines run every 20 minutes (lines 1-9). And: There is no longer a separation into day and evening lines. The buses run until the end of the day (until about 11.30 p.m. or on Friday and Saturday as well as on days before public holidays until about 1.30 a.m.), which is ideal for night owls or if you want to do some research in the library a little longer! Lines C, 6 and 8 serve the bus stop “Universität”, which is located in front of the university’s central building. Details about the individual lines can be found on the website of KMG.

If you are travelling by train, the stop Klagenfurt West is the right address for you – from there it is a short walk to the university, through the park and across the Lendkanal or you can use the line C, which go to the bus stop “Universität”.

Tip: Switching Days (“Umsteigertage”) from 16 to 22 September! As part of the “European Mobility Week” you can try out public transport throughout Carinthia completely free of charge and without a ticket! More information about the “Umsteigertage”

If the offer convinces you, the “Klimaticket” is the right one for you! It is particularly cheap for people under 26: The KlimaTicket Ö, which is valid throughout Austria, currently costs 821 euros per year. If you only want to travel in Carinthia, you currently pay 299 euros per year for the Kärnten Ticket.

STUDIbike – The special rate for students at the nextbike bike rental service

By cycling you not only protect the environment, but also do something for your fitness – the bike rental system nextbike has a special rate for students.
