Klagenfurt is a small and friendly city: 100,000 people live here in the most southerly provincial capital in Austria. The University of Klagenfurt, also known as Alpen-Adria Universität (AAU), is located in the west of the city, about 5 minutes away from Lake Wörthersee by bike. It’s an excellent place to study. The student to professor ratio at the university is around 38 to 1. In other words, you‘re not just an anonymous (matriculation) number; instead your lecturers know, encourage and challenge you individually. So watch out – it’s not the place to come if you want to hide away for a few semesters!

2: It’s your choice! Our huge range of degree programmes


The University of Klagenfurt offers 18 undergraduate degree programmes, 27 Master’s degree programmes, 13 teaching subjects and 5 doctoral (degree) programmes. Nine of these programmes of study are currently available in English.

3: The stunning campus


The University of Klagenfurt’s campus covers 10 hectares, close to the shores of Lake Wörthersee. The infrastructure provides everything you need for a perfect time at university: modern buildings and plenty of great leisure and cultural activities, all just a short distance from each other. And it’s a very green campus: around half of the campus is undeveloped land.

The university campus is the most international hotspot in southern Austria. Around 2,000 of the 11,600 students come from close to 100 different countries. Through the friends you will make during your time in Klagenfurt, you will create a global network, which will open many international doors later on in life.

The University of Klagenfurt has co-operation projects with 273 universities around the world. Erasmus and joint-study placements, work experience and summer schools abroad are therefore very easy to take advantage of.
