Theme: “The Time of the Simplex: How African Cultures have prevented Autocracy and Polarisation”
Speaker: Prof. Koen Stroeken, Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium
Koen(raad) Stroeken is Full Professor of African Studies and Anthropology in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Ghent University, Belgium. He founded and co-directs at this university the Centre for Anthropological Research on Affect and Materiality (CARAM). He wrote three monographs with Berghahn and Palgrave on traditional healing systems in eastern Africa and edited the volumes “War-Technology Anthropology” and “@ccessible Development”. He has supervised twelve doctoral projects and has four ongoing, mostly based on long term ethnographic study.
