Preparatory Course Programme for Supplementary Examinations

Objective

The purpose of the preparatory course programme is to prepare international university applicants for the supplementary examination of German language competence (Art. 63 par. 10 and 11 of the 2002 University Law, for supplementary exams in other disciplines (Art. 64 par. 2) and also to perform these exams.

In preparation for the supplementary German exam, the programme provides the language skills necessary for successful continuation of university studies, as set out in Art. 63 par. 10.

Courses preparing candidates for exams in other subjects focus on the essential contents meetings the standards of Austrian school leaving exams, so as to guarantee that candidates have achieved a level equivalent to that of the national school leaving certificate, as foreseen by Art. 64 par. 2 of the University Law.

Target group

Admission to the Preparatory Course Programme

Admission for Students who, by decision of the Rectorate of the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, are required to pass the additional examination to prove their knowledge of the German language and / or one or more additional examinations for other subjects prior to admission to full university studies.

Course Structure

Students who are required to complete the supplementary exam for German language only are eligible to participate for three semesters. Students who are also required to complete additional exams for other subjects, are entitled to participate in the courses for four semesters.
In well-founded cases, the responsible member of the Rectorate may approve the participation in courses for a maximum of a further 2 semesters.

Examination

Since courses are based on continuous assessment, attendance is compulsory.
The supplementary examination(s) stipulated in the letter of admission is / are considered passed upon successful completion of the respective course.
The supplementary examination of German language competence and the exams of other subjects consist of a written and an oral part. Students will only be admitted to the oral part once they have passed the written part.

Besides this, the provisions of University Law and Part B of the Statutes of the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt applicable to examinations apply.
