The Worlds of English minor will provide you with solid insights into Anglophone languages, cultures, and literature. You will acquire both theoretical and practical skills in the English language, which will serve to enhance the profile of your main course of study if you are aiming for a career in an international environment.
After completing the Worlds of English minor, you will not only be familiar with the English language and its varieties, as well as the linguistics of English. You will also gain insight into the diversity of Anglophone literature, learn about the literary histories of English-speaking countries, and become familiar with the theoretical and practical research approaches of literary studies.
One of the key areas of the Worlds of English minor is Anglophone cultural studies, with a particular focus on country-specific developments and events and their influence on current research discourses. This means that you will not only learn how Anglophone languages work, but also what sociocultural nuances you need to be aware of when studying or working in English-speaking countries.

If you would like to study Worlds of English as a minor in your Bachelor's degree programme, please note the following:
A Bachelor’s combination programme consists of one major subject supplemented by one or two minor subjects. A Bachelor’s degree programme comprises 180 ECTS credits. In a Bachelor’s combination programme, you combine one major worth 120 ECTS credits with one minor worth 60 ECTS credits or two minors worth 30 ECTS credits each. This flexible structure opens up even more opportunities for you to pursue a Master’s degree at the University of Klagenfurt after completing your Bachelor’s degree.
In a traditional Bachelor’s degree programme, you choose one main subject – such as International Business and Economics.
In contrast, Bachelor’s combination programmes allow you to combine two subjects in a targeted way – for example, a language (German Studies, Slavonic Studies or Romance Studies) with a minor such as Management, Applied AI, or Ethics. This allows you to shape a personalised competence profile that reflects your personal interests while also allowing you to stand out on the job market.
You can find the complete list of our Bachelor’s degrees on our website.
When you choose a Bachelor's combination programme, you can select specific minor subjects that match your interests or enhance your educational profile for the job market, in addition to your chosen major subject. Employers value your ability to grasp and combine different subject areas. Your versatile approach to work and your problem-solving skills are highly sought after in the professional world.
What's more, you will pave the way to a range of additional Master's programmes – going beyond your major subject – at the University of Klagenfurt.
Only after successfully completing the Introductory and Orientation Period of your major subject can / must you choose one minor subject (worth 60 ECTS credits) or two minor subjects (worth 30 ECTS credits each).
Yes, it is generally possible to change your minor subject.
Please note, however, that if you have already successfully completed courses in your previous minor subject, you may find that the ECTS credits you earned will not be counted towards your new minor subject.
