Call for Participation – Teacher Survey on Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship Education

UNESCO, together with Education International, is conducting a global survey of teachers’ readiness to integrate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) into their teaching. The study will gather information on teachers’ readiness to teach ESD and GCED, the training and support available to them, approaches taken to teaching ESD and GCED across the curriculum and in assessing learning outcomes as well as other ESD- and GCED-related activities in school and with local communities.

The results of the survey will be presented at UNESCO’s next Global Forum on ESD and GCED which will be hosted by the Republic of Korea in September 2021.

International Symposium on Democracy, Global Citizenship and Transformation Education

The International Symposium on Democracy, Global Citizenship and Transformation Education: New Perspectives to Understand, Engage and Act Together is taking place from May 17th to May 21nd, 2021. It is organized by the UNESCO Chair in Democracy, Global Citizenship and Transformative Education (DCMET) at the Université du Québec en Outaouais, Chair-holder Paul R. Carr and Co-Chair is Gina Thésée.

Hans Karl Peterlini will be giving a talk on “Transformative learning – more than just a magic formula? Problems and Potentials for Global Citizenship Education” there on May 20th.

Book Launch Event “Die Welt neu denken lernen”

Werner Wintersteiner and Hans Karl Peterlini just published a new book: Die Welt neu denken lernen. Lehren aus Corona und anderen existentiellen Krisen. The book contains a collection of essays that, in the context of the recent pandemic, critcially deals with the issues of crises and how planetary politics can improve our world.

The book will be presented on May 17th, 2021 at 18:00 in the Leibniz-Veranstaltungssaal at Lakesidepark.
