SUMMARY:THE MISSING BIG IDEA: WHY FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE DIFFERENTIATION DIMINISHES ADVERTISING EFFECTIVENESS
DESCRIPTION:Extensive research has focused on the role of attitude toward the ad (AAd) in advertising effectiveness\, but recent meta-analyses have provided limited evidence of a strong and consistent link between AAd and attitude toward the brand (ABrand). Such findings challenge traditional beliefs about how AAd translates into ABrand and what leads to effective advertising. A key limitation of prior research is a failure to distinguish between the brand message and its delivery method in advertising studies. While strategy research emphasizes the importance of product differentiation\, studies on advertising’s impact on market outcomes have largely ignored the presence of a brand-differentiating message (BDM)\, despite some evidence that it is associated with ad effectiveness. This study conducts a longitudinal analysis of BDM’s impact on ad awareness\, brand liking\, consideration\, purchase intention\, and market penetration during a decade of Super Bowl advertising\, examining 280 brand-level observations of commercials coded for over 60 content features over a period of 61 days after the Super Bowl (N = 17\,080). Results from a difference-in-difference model challenge conventional advertising models\, underscoring BDM’s profound effects and its interaction with other ad message content and delivery factors. The study clarifies the relationship between ad liking and various measures of consumer response by demonstrating that ad liking influences these measures only when a differentiating product message is present. The paper concludes with a discussion of why this interaction is present and its implications for advertising content.

DESCRIPTION:Das Karl-Popper-Archiv an der Universitätsbibliothek Klagenfurt wurde vor 25 Jahren\, im Mai 2001 eröffnet. Es beherbergt Karl Poppers Bibliothek\, eine schriftliche Kopie seines Nachlasses sowie mehrere Sammlungen zu Leben und Werk des Philosophen. Vom Copyright-Büro werden die Rechte am Werk Poppers verwaltet\, die im Jahr 2008 an die Universität Klagenfurt übertragen wurden. In den 25 Jahren seines Bestehens etablierte sich das Klagenfurter Karl-Popper-Archiv zu einem Zentrum für die weltweite Auseinandersetzung mit Poppers Ideen\, Leben und dem Werk.  \nAnlässlich des Jubiläums laden das Karl-Popper-Archiv und die Karl Popper Foundation Klagenfurt zu einem Gespräch mit Arne Petersen und Jeremy Shearmur ein\, die als Forschungsassistenten mit Karl Popper zusammengearbeitet haben und Poppers Ideen in ihrer Arbeit aufgegriffen und verarbeitet haben. Die beiden Wissenschaftler werden von ihrer Zusammenarbeit mit Popper erzählen und wie die Beschäftigung mit dem kritischen Rationalismus ihre Arbeit geprägt hat. \nGrußworte von Rektorin Univ.-Prof. Mag. DESCRIPTION:Im Zeitalter der künstlichen Intelligenz (KI) rückt die Generierung von Wissen erneut in den Fokus. Die Art und Weise\, wie wir auf Informationen zugreifen\, Entscheidungen treffen und mit der Welt interagieren\, wird zunehmend von Systemen der künstlichen Intelligenz bestimmt und geprägt. Seltsamerweise hat die wissenschaftstheoretische Auseinandersetzung der Vergangenheit zu diesem Thema bislang noch wenig Beachtung gefunden\, obwohl ihre Relevanz weit über die bloße Datenverwertung hinausgeht. \nDer Vortrag analysiert die Ansätze von Karl Popper und Paul Feyerabend zur Wissensgenerierung und Demokratisierung des Wissens im Umfeld des Wiener Kreises. Während Popper den Kritischen Rationalismus als offenen Prozess von Versuch und Irrtum betont\, plädiert Feyerabend für einen epistemologischen Anarchismus\, der den Pluralismus nicht-wissenschaftlicher Wissenssysteme fördert und Expertenmacht kritisch hinterfragt. \nDie Analyse beleuchtet den Wandel der Wissensgenerierung vom methodischen Ideal des Wiener Kreises über Poppers Kritischen Rationalismus bis hin zu Feyerabends erkenntnistheoretischem Anarchismus. Während Popper Fortschritt durch Falsifizierbarkeit und eine offene Gesellschaft definiert\, bricht Feyerabend mit der rationalen Methode und fordert einen radikalen Pluralismus\, der alternative Wissenssysteme einbezieht. Inwieweit Poppers bzw. Feyerabends Ansatz in Angesicht der künstlichen Intelligenz (KI) eine Rolle spielen und welche Aussagekraft ihnen heute zukommt\, soll erörtert werden.
