How can I create a course-independent Moodle course?
How can I change the language of my Moodle course?
In the middle of the top bar, you find a drop-down list with different languages. There you can choose the desired language. In order to change the language for your students, please define it in the Moodle course settings: Click on the cog in the upper right corner and select “Edit Settings” -> “Appearance” -> “Force Language”. After this, students will not be able to change the language themselves anymore.
Is there a possibility to send emails to all of my students directly in Moodle?
This can be done in the news forum (“Add a new topic”). Your students will receive an email notification with your post either immediately after you have posted a message or after 30 minutes.
How can I add/change a profile picture?
In order to change or add a profile picture, click on your name within the block “Userpic” –> “Edit Profile”. The picture can be uploaded in the section “User Picture”.
Is there a possibility to acknowledge the students’ participation in the gradebook?
Yes; add a “grade item” in “Grades” -> “Gradebook Setup”. You can insert the points/grades for each student under “Grader report”.
How can i grant all users of the AAU or external users access to my Moodle course?
In general, you have to differentiate between “self-enrollment” and “guest access”. Self-enrollment is only possible for AAU users which have an active Moodle account. In case the guest access is activated, all persons (also externals without login) can access your Moodle course. (Note: Guests cannot participate in activities or post in forums, they can only view materials). A detailed description can be found here [Please click on “Einschreiben”].

Why can’t I access my Moodle course(s)?
First, try to log in at the Online Campus (Studierenden-Portal). If this does not work, please contact the ZID hotline (hotline [at] aau.at). However, if you can access your course overview, click on the Moodle icon and then receive an error message, please contact the eLearning hotline (elearning [at] aau.at) and send us the error message you receive.
Why do I receive the error message "Manuelle Einschreibung ist nicht möglich" if I want to access a Moodle course?
You can only access Moodle courses if you have the status “aufgenommen” in the Online Campus (Studierenden-Portal). Please check under “Meine LVs” whether this is the case. If you are admitted but still cannot access the corresponding Moodle course, please contact the eLearning hotline (elearning [at] aau.at).
How can I change my profile?

How can I post in forums?
Please click on the forum you want to contribute to, click on “Add a new topic” and create your post. If you want to react to an existing post, click on the topic and on “answer”. A detailed description can be found here [Please click on “Einschreiben”].
Please note that the news forum “Ankündigungen” is a read-only forum for students. If there is no other forum, you can ask your lecturer to set up a discussion forum for students.
How can I upload files (e.g. videos)?
Please use the tools provided by the lecturer in the Moodle course (e.g. assignment, forum etc.) and pay attention to the individual maximum file upload size. If your file is larger than this limit, lecturers can increase it up to 512 MB. In case your file is larger than 512 MB, please contact the eLearning hotline.
Are there distance studies at the AAU?
No, the AAU does not offer distance studies. To organize teaching in an interactive way, the department of eLearning Service focuses on the area-wide usage of elearning and blended learning. Lecturers can decide to what extent the students’ presence in class is required. By offering etesting and online exams, we provide up-to-date testing possibilities.
