The application for admission to a Bachelor’s degree programme must be received in its entirety
You may submit an application for admission at any time.
Admission of applicants with an Austrian school leaving certificate / a general higher education entrance qualification from Germany: It is not necessary to submit an application for admission to a Bachelor’s degree programme!

In exceptional cases, admission to a Bachelor’s degree programme may be permitted during the general admission period for other programmes. Should one of the following exceptions be applicable in your case, please contact the Admissions and Examinations Office.
Exceptions to the general admission period for Bachelor’s degree programmes
Before you come to the Admissions and Examinations Office, you must book an appointment. Further information on how to book an appointment is available on the page of the Admissions and Examinations Office.
If you wish to apply and enrol for a Bachelor’s degree programme without a special admission procedure, you need to complete the general admission procedure:
If you have not been admitted to the University of Klagenfurt at any time in the past you need to complete the following steps:
Carry out the online registration on the webpage of the University of Klagenfurt. Be sure to fill in all fields marked with an asterisk (*).
After the online registration and the potential completion of a special admission procedure, come to the Admissions and Examinations Office of the University of Klagenfurt for your enrolment in person.
You may enrol at the Admissions and Examinations Office of the University of Klagenfurt within the general admission period for Bachelor’s programmes. In exceptional cases, enrolment may also take place during the general admission period for other programmes.
Book an appointment for your enrolment in person (admission). Further information on how to book an appointment is available on the page of the Admissions and Examinations Office.
For your enrolment in person at the Admissions and Examinations Office, bring along the following documents:
Original documents
For admission, the respective (legalised) originals are required. Alternatively, copies certified by a notary public may be presented. If applicable, official translations of the (legalised) originals are required.
The documents required for the purpose of admission must be submitted and will be returned to the applicant after the authenticity has been verified.
Prints, scans, or simple copies do not suffice for admission and will not be considered.
Intactness
Ensure the intactness of seals, staples, threads, stickers, or other kinds of adhesive on your documents. Do not remove existing attachments under any circumstance.
If you wish to enrol for a Bachelor’s degree programme with a special admission procedure, the successful completion of the special admission procedure is an additional prerequisite for admission.
If you have not been admitted to the University of Klagenfurt at any time in the past, you need to complete the following steps:

Enclose the following documents to the application for admission:
Original documents
All documents must be submitted as originals or as copies certified by a notary public.
The documents required for the purpose of admission must be submitted and will be returned to the applicant after the authenticity has been verified.
Prints, scans, or simple copies do not suffice for admission and will not be considered.
Legalisation
Depending on the country in which your documents were issued, they may need to be authenticated. Heed the legalisation requirements.
Documents issued in Austria do not need to be legalised.
Official translations
Documents which are issued in a language other than English or German need to be translated into either of these two languages. Heed the translation requirements.
Intactness
Ensure the intactness of seals, staples, threads, stickers, or other kinds of adhesive on your documents. Do not remove existing attachments under any circumstance.

Processing time
The processing time of a complete application for admission to a Bachelor’s degree programme is approximately 2 months.
Additional documents
Depending on the country of origin or, respectively, the country of issuance of your documents, additional documents might be required in the process.
Rectification
If admission is possible in principle, but rectification is necessary, you will be informed accordingly by email.
Acceptance
If your application for admission is accepted, you will receive a notification of admission (admission letter) with an ‘official signature’ (“Amtssignatur”) by email.
Rejection
If your application for admission is rejected, you will be informed accordingly by email.

After the online registration, the potential completion of a special admission procedure and the receipt of the notification of admission, come to the Admissions and Examinations Office of the University of Klagenfurt for your enrolment in person.
After you receive your notification of admission, you may enrol at the Admissions and Examinations Office of the University of Klagenfurt within the general admission period for Bachelor’s programmes. In exceptional cases, enrolment may also take place during the general admission period for other programmes.

Non-Austrian school leaving certificate
Proof of the general university entrance qualification can be established by means of a foreign qualification, provided that there is no substantial difference to an Austrian secondary school leaving certificate. There is no substantial difference, in any case, if
If the period of schooling pursuant to item 2 only lasts eleven years, or if there is a lack of educational content pursuant to item 3, the Rectorate may prescribe a total of up to four supplementary examinations to be taken prior to admission.
Successful completion of a special admission procedure
If you wish to enrol for a Bachelor’s degree programme with a special admission procedure, the successful completion of the special admission procedure is an additional prerequisite for admission.
Supplementary examinations
If the equivalence of foreign certificates with regard to contents and demands of an Austrian school leaving examination does not exist, supplementary examinations will be stipulated. The supplementary examinations are required for establishing equivalence with an Austrian school leaving examination and must be successfully completed before the admission to a Bachelor’s degree programme.
Proficiency in German
If proficiency in German at the B2 level (CEFR) is not sufficiently proven (see Language proficiency), the supplementary examination in German will be prescribed, which must be taken before the admission to a degree programme. The supplementary examination in German is to be taken in the context of the preparatory course programme for supplementary examinations (VAAU).
If you have been admitted to the University of Klagenfurt in the past or are currently enrolled at the university, fill in the student data sheet and sign it. Send the completed student data sheet to studienabteilung [at] aau [dot] at. Heed the information on online registration.
If necessary, additional documents will be requested.
If you wish to enrol for a Bachelor’s degree programme with a special admission procedure, the successful completion of the special admission procedure is an additional prerequisite for admission.

In addition to the respective special admission procedure, the general admission procedure must be completed.
Official documents
Only documents which are equipped with a wet ink signature and a wet stamp/embossing seal (i.e. manually signed and stamped) or with the Austrian ‘official signature’ (“Amtssignatur”) are considered official documents. Digitally generated documents without a wet ink signature and wet stamp/embossing seal or, respectively, without the Austrian official signature will not be considered.
Additional examination for Latin
The potentially required additional examination for Latin must be taken before passing the last examination in the Bachelor’s degree programme. Students who have successfully completed at least 10 hours per week of Latin at secondary level are not required to take the additional examination.
