Univ.-Ass. Kai Strycker, B.A., BSc, MA
I am a doctoral researcher in the field of Science and Technology Studies (STS) particularly intrigued by the complex interplay between science, technology and the military. My research interest first took shape as part of the ERC Starting Grant Project FutureSpace at the University of Vienna during which I particularly investigated the elaborate entanglement of civilian and military concerns in the European space industry. Now dual use research and the securitization of European science and technology within the larger context of a shifting geopolitical landscape have become my primary area of research.
My academic journey began at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology where I completed my bachelor in Mechanical Engineering in 2017 after conducting research at the University of Kentucky. Desiring a change in focus, I pursued a bachelor of Philosophy at the Université de Strasbourg, spending a semester at the Université de Montréal as recipient of the “Initiative d’Excellence” scholarship. My interdisciplinary interests culminated in the „Science, Technology, Society“ master degree at the University of Vienna in 2025.
