Auf welche Weise sind Forschung und Bildung auch an Universitäten mit Aufrüstung, Militarisierung und Krieg verstrickt – und warum sollten sie das gerade in Zeiten des Krieges nicht sein? Die in Deutschland, einem NATO-Mitgliedsstaat, seit vielen Jahrzehnten aktive Bewegung für Zivilklauseln als Selbstverpflichtung von wissenschaftlichen Einrichtungen, ausschließlich für zivile Zwecke zu forschen und zu lehren, gerät zunehmend unter Druck. Im neutralen Österreich ist das Konzept weitgehend unbekannt. Zugleich forcieren auch hierzulande Fördergeber*innen aus Militär und Rüstungsindustrie immer mehr Kooperationen mit Universitäten und in Bildungseinrichtungen. Diese Entwicklung einer materiellen und finanziellen sowie auch einer diskursiven, kognitiven und affektiven Militarisierung breiter Teile der Gesellschaft wollen wir problematisieren und diskutieren.

Es handelt sich um eine Veranstaltung im Rahmen des 25 jährigen Jubiläums der weltweiten Vereinigung "scholars at risk". Einerseits ist Wissenschaft gehalten sich der Öffentlichkeit nicht zu verweigern - Begriffe wie third mission, öffentliche Wissenschaft, public outreach etc. umschreiben dies - andererseits trifft Wissenschaft immer wieder auch trigger points einer gesellschaftlichen Auseinandersetzung - Klimawandel, Migration, AI, Gentechnik, Impfungen, Engergiewende, die liberale Demkratie … und dies kann auch in persönlichen Angriffen auf WissenschaftlerInnen münden - von Diffamierungen bis Drohungen reicht die Palette. Was können - was sollen Universitäten da tun - und wie wäre die Idee einer zentralen Anlaufstelle (wie etwa science care an der ÖAW)?
