Educating for Humanity: SEL and Intercultural Competence in Africa’s Next Generation

The UNESCO Chair on Intercultural Competences at Stellenbosch University warmly invites you to an engaging webinar exploring the transformative role of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and intercultural competence in shaping Africa’s future generations.

Presented by Dr Akuch Kuol Anyieth, Research Fellow and Postgraduate Programme Convenor at the Centre for the Study of the Afterlife of Violence and the Reparative Quest (AVReQ), this session reflects on how the African philosophy of Ubuntu — “I am because we are” — can inform more just, inclusive, and sustainable educational futures.

Drawing on research, community engagement, and sustainable development initiatives, the webinar highlights how values such as human dignity, shared responsibility, and inclusion can guide education systems in responding to complex social realities.
