The lecture will address the phenomenon of war literature in a broader sense, and war poetry in a narrower sense. What is the connection between war and literature? To offer an answer to this question, war is considered as a social phenomenon that also manifests itself in literature. In this sense, the question of the representation of war in literature arises, both in ancient and modern literature.

8. Mai 2025 – 15:15-16:45 – Raum N.0.15
im Rahmen der LV 530.152 Literaturwissenschaftliches Seminar (B/K/S und Russisch): „Ost und West, Orient und Okzident, Europa und Asien: Literatur zwischen Abgrenzung und Identifikation“ von Assoc. Prof.in Dr.in Cristina Beretta
Thirty years have passed since the end of the war in Croatia, which left its mark on literature, both in prose and in poetry. The return of war to European soil with the outbreak of war in Ukraine also marks the return of war themes to contemporary Ukrainian literature. In this sense, a diachronic comparative analysis of Croatian and Ukrainian war poetry is necessary. The lecture will attempt to answer some questions about the representation of war in contemporary Croatian and Ukrainian poetry, highlighting their similarities and differences.
