Seit September 2016 ist Alexander Onysko Universitätsprofessor für Anglistische Sprachwissenschaft am Institut für Anglistik und Amerikanistik. Seine Antrittsvorlesung hält er am 17. Oktober 2017 zum Thema „Meaning construction in complex words“.

„Meaning construction in complex words“
When two or more words are combined to create a new term, the question arises of how the individual constituents contribute to the meaning of the emerging unit. That is particularly noticeable in newly created compounds or in creatively used compounds (e. g. sandwich generation, land yacht, or Weißdornaugen and Herbstmilch as two examples from German literary contexts). Taking a cognitive linguistic perspective, this talk will try to shed some light on how meaning is built up in compound words. The presentation will discuss the theoretical background of meaning construction in complex words, and it will show some findings from research on meaning interpretations to a set of invented English compounds.
Zur Person
Alexander Onysko, geboren 1974 in Lienz, ist seit September 2016 Universitätsprofessor für Anglistische Sprachwissenschaft am Institut für Anglistik und Amerikanistik der Fakultät für Kulturwissenschaften.
Alexander Onysko studierte Anglistik und Amerikanistik an der Universität Innsbruck. Neben einem Fulbright-Aufenthalt in den USA war er Vertretungsprofessor an den Universitäten Hamburg und Bochum, Gastprofessor an der Universität Innsbruck sowie Gastdozent an der Universität Göteborg. Von 2012 bis 2015 war er Forscher und Projektleiter an der EURAC (European Academy) in Bozen. Alexander Onysko verbrachte unter anderem einen Forschungsaufenthalt an der University of Waikato in Hamilton, Neuseeland, zur Erforschung des Englischen im Kontakt mit der indigenen Māori-Sprache. Vor seiner Berufung an die AAU war er Associate Professor für Englische Linguistik an der Universität Venedig.
